Eventually we all get to it...

So I started this blog in July with intention that I would write about training for the New York City marathon that is about 5 weeks away...and this is my first post. Hence the title of this first blog post.

Suffice to say, with the general lack of posting, the training has not gone well and I am, at best, 50/50 for the marathon, which sucks. I have been dealing with what I can only describe as "heavy leg" syndrome all thru' training as well as dealing with an uncomfortable tendon behind my right knee. It's about 36 hours before the training run in Central Park [minimum of 18 miles] and we'll see what I can pull out of the bag. I'm always positive and hoping that training pretty consistently since July 2006 for marathons will stand me in good stead, although i have to believe that some straightforward atrophy of the rapid response that I've had in marathons past to be able to run fast, strong and meet my goals. I'm a sub 3-hour marathoner and New York is my PR [2:51:18]...and a large part of me does not want to race if I can't at least give cracking the PR a good shot!

So, we'll see how we feel after Sunday, starting at 7AM....

Why blog...?

So, I'm on Twitter, Facebook, etc. and was thinking about other forms of social media given that my day job is Director of OPEN Forum Startegy & Marketing for American Express...it's what I do on a day-to-day basis.

And then came the blog...I had wanted to catalogue what it is like to train for a marathon for a while and just hadn't got around to it. Then, I also realized that many of life's events are marathon-esque in that they require planning, dedication and take more than a few minutes to complete.

Hence my blog...starting with training for the New York City marathon in November, as well as working to launch the new openforum.com [scheduled for 7.16], getting MacRay Music off and running, as well as anything else that feels like it's worth doing.

Enjoy!
